World Cup 2026: Suriname on the verge of historic qualification
Suriname crushed El Salvador 4-0 in a decisive match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This historic victory puts the nation at the top of Group A and definitively eliminates El Salvador.
The opening goal came from a Tjaronn Chery penalty in the 44th minute. In the second half, Richonell Margaret scored twice (74th and 76th), before Dhoraso Klas sealed the score in the 83rd minute.
Ranked 126th by FIFA, Suriname is causing a sensation this year. Before the final game against Guatemala, they have nine points and a better goal difference than both Panama and Guatemala.
For the first time ever, Suriname could qualify for a World Cup and write a historic chapter in its football story. The feat must be confirmed on Tuesday.
