WNBA Exec Pushes Angel Reese To Leave Chicago Sky Following 'Embarrassing' Team Drama: 'Request A Trade'

Amidst the ongoing drama between Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, an unnamed WNBA executive has reportedly encouraged the young superstar to seek greener pastures. Last week, Reese made headlines once again after comments she made about her team’s front office were taken out of context and used against her. The situation escalated quickly, culminating in the Sky suspending the LSU alum for making comments “detrimental to the team.”

According to a new report from Dallas Hoops Journal, an unnamed WNBA executive has voiced their opinion on Reese’s relationship with the Chicago Sky.

“She needs to get the hell out of there,” the executive said about the Windy City organization, which was voted the worst-run franchise by WNBA players in an anonymous 2025 poll.

“Chicago is probably the worst-run organization in the league. You’re gonna suspend your best player just because she’s putting pressure on you to get better? That was embarrassing to see,” they added.

The executive touched on the strong likelihood of Chicago trading her during the offseason. However, they said if the team goes in a different direction, Reese “should request a trade.”

It’s no secret to any fan of basketball that the Chicago Sky had an abysmal season (10-32 at the time of this article), struggling on both ends of the floor, ranking near the bottom of the league in both offensive and defensive efficiency. They’re currently last in the league in points per game and lead the league in turnovers, averaging a high of 16.5 per contest.

Of course, there have been some bright spots throughout the Sky’s season, clinching wins over two of the league’s top teams in the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx. Reese has also shown considerable improvement, cleaning up her finishes around the rim while continuing to dominate on the boards, leading the league in rebounds per game with 12.6.

Reese also took on a much larger role during her sophomore season after veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot was ruled out due to injury, going on to lead her team in points, rebounds, and assists. She snagged her first triple-double of her career during a contest against the Connecticut Sun and also set a record for most double-doubles in a player’s first two seasons with 46.

With her performance and undeniably high level of effort on the court, it only makes sense that Reese would want to be surrounded by the best of the best. She spoke about her desire to improve her situation in Chicago with reporters last week, saying, “I am very vocal about what we need and what I want.”

However, it was her following comments, “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me,” that really got people riled up.

As she continued, Reese told the media that she wouldn’t be “settling for the same sh-t we did this year.”

“We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me. I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason,” she said.

Reese’s statements, however, were not well-received by some of her teammates or the Chicago Sky’s front office.

Although the 6’3″ power forward apologized and publicly stated she was “frustrated” with how her language was taken out of context, the WNBA team suspended the Baltimore native for the first half of their contest against the Las Vegas Aces.

In a statement shared on social media, the Sky explained that it “values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player.”

They went on, calling Reese’s comments “detrimental to the team” before saying the matter was “handled and resolved internally.”

Social media erupted with thinkpieces following the news of Reese’s suspension; however, the most notable and common phrase floating around was “Free Angel.”

Today, that sentiment remains, with users sharing passionate opinions on Reese’s future in Chicago while slamming the franchise for seemingly fumbling its relationship with one of the league’s most talked-about players.

“Shame on the Chicago Sky FO. She receives so much scrutiny, especially on social media, that they were out to embarrass her, but it backfired,” someone wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
