Ever heard of anyone whose nickname is just their full name?
That’s what New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has going for him.
Among Patriots fans, it has become a meme to refer to the QB as Drake “Drake Maye” Maye.
And after the Pats improved to 9-2 with a win on Thursday night, rookie left tackle Will Campbell did that, too.
The confusing part of this all is that the explanation and origin of this meme, or nickname, or whatever you want to call it? It’s not that easy to figure out.

There are a lot of little threads out there that can start to piece together what is clearly an endearing nickname and/or meme for the Patriots’ rising star quarterback.
Posters on Reddit point to the origin as the social media account Drake Maye Lover, which has nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram and 35,000 followers on X.
That account shared Campbell’s comments, clearly proud of what has happened to what appears to be their creation:

It appears that the premise is that Maye doesn’t need a nickname. Drake Maye is just Drake Maye.
A nickname can often be used to add a cool factor to an individual.
And the premise here, among Patriots fans, is that there’s nothing cooler than being Drake Maye.
Right now, that’s very true.
