Port Vale captain Ben Garrity says the squad know they have not been good enough in the past three matches in League One.
Three defeats in a row – against Wigan, Stockport and Bolton – brought an abrupt end to their five-match unbeaten run in the league and has seen Darren Moore’s side drop back into the relegation zone.
Ahead of Saturday’s visit of 14th-placed Wycombe, Garrity knows the players have to keep believing things will turn.
“You have to take care of your daily standards. You can’t let them drop just because results have gone the wrong way,” he told BBC Radio Stoke.
“We know we’ve not been good enough, we’re not stupid enough not to realise that.
“We’re a much better side [than results suggest] but actions speak louder than words.
“The lads know that. We work hard on the training pitch it’s just about replicating it in a full game.”
Despite being four points adrift of safety, Garrity says with only 15 games played, there is no need for anyone – players or fans – to panic.
“It’s the start of November. I’ve been in this position in February and March and it’s a lot worse,” he said.
“Of course we don’t want to be in this position – you want to be in the top half but there’s so much football [to come] and so much time to turn things around.
“I’m probably the most impatient person. I hate waiting. I hate queues and stuff like that. I get people’s frustrations.
“I’m not saying ‘give us time’ because we want to turn it around as soon as possible and start winning. We’re not here just to take part. We’re here to win.”
Attacking midfielder Garrity, who is yet to score this season, says he is feeling back to himself after a pre-season ruined by injury and denied the suggestion that confidence in the squad has been dented by results.
“Was it a confidence thing after [beating] Exeter, Mansfield and Barnsley?” he added.
“Now we’ve lost three games on the bounce everyone’s confidence is shot.
“Of course it’s not as good as when you’re winning but once the whistle goes it goes out the game – it’s you v your man and whoever comes out on top deserves to win.”
