It has been zero days since the last Tyreek Hill drama.
Currently out for the season with a knee injury sustained in Week 4, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver raised eyebrows Friday when it was noticed that he had changed his Instagram bio to one word: “Unemployed.”
For what it’s worth, Hill is still employed by the Dolphins by pretty much any definition of the word. He isn’t expected to play again in 2025, but is under contract for next season on a contract that was restructured into a three-year, $90 million deal last year.
However, with Hill set to turn 32 years old, coming off a major injury and carrying a $51.9 million cap hit in 2026, he’s a pretty clear cut candidate for the Dolphins, who would save $23.7 million in cap space by cutting him next year, per OverTheCap. This is purely speculation, but he might even be tipping some communications he’s received from the team about its plans. Of course, last week he also appeared to shut down a report he would be cut.
This could also just be a troll job after seeing what Nico Harrison did after getting fired by the Dallas Mavericks. There are several possibilities here.
Hill had already been sending signals he was thinking about life after football, not just the Dolphins, when he said he was undecided about retiring on a podcast last month. Two weeks later, he was announcing his new career as a DJ.
Obviously, stuff like this is nothing new when it comes to Hill, who forced his way out of the Kansas City Chiefs years ago and was talking about his Dolphins career in the past tense just a few months ago. He is one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL when healthy, but there’s a reason why the Dolphins might not be too interested in making this work after 2025.
