“You can see the way guys play. You play a little bit bigger with him back there,” Barracuda head coach John McCarthy said postgame.
Sharks prospect Lucas Vanroboys scored the game’s only goal, which sent teddy bears flying to the ice and praised his goaltender.

“He gives us a lot of confidence back there. If we start slow or if we fall asleep in the game at some point, he oftentimes bails us out,” Vanroboys said. “And it just gives us that motivation and that energy boost to get back on the train.”
Askarov has played in 12 games this season and owns a 1.75 GAA and a .946 save % in the AHL. With a good and energetic crowd on hand to watch last night’s spectacle, Askarov said he got a second wind.
“That was super loud. I love our fans,” Askarov said. “When your fans [are] super loud, you just try to keep it going. [They] help you. You [get] a second wind. That’s what I felt.”
When Mike Grier and the San Jose Sharks acquired Yaroslav Askarov from the Nashville Predators, they knew they were getting a potential franchise goalie. All signs point to that happening.
