Top-20 overall recruit Maximo Adams commits to North Carolina

Maximo Adams, a top-20 national prospect in the 2026 class, has committed to North Carolina.

The 6-foot-7 four-star small forward out of Sierra Canyon (CA) ultimately chose the Tar Heels over Kentucky, Texas, and Michigan State, but also received offers from the likes of Kansas, Washington, Duke, Purdue, Illinois, USC, and others.

Adams is the No. 18 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to Rivals Top-150 Rankings. Hes also the No. 7 ranked small forward and the No. 6 player in the state of California.

Maximo Adams discussed with Rivals why he chose the Tar Heels.

I chose North Carolina because of the coaching staff. On my visit I almost felt like a familiar relationship with all the coaches and players. I could tell how much they valued me as a person more than just a player.

He has a message for UNC fans.

Lets go TARHEELS!!!! Im excited to be part of the family. Lets be great together. Love yall

Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Jamie Shaw provided the following scouting report on Adams:

Seeing Adams at 6-foot-7, and his ability to consistently create advantages via dribbling, passing, or shooting is very intriguing. His shot is clean and he is comfortable stepping into it and hitting all his balance points. Adams has also shown a pull-up jump shot, getting to it off two and three dribbles in the half court.

While he is not the twitchiest of athletes, he has good feel for the game. He seems to oftentimes be in the right place to make a positive play for his team. He tracks rebounds well, reading the ball off the rim, and he uses leverage well to collect boards on the defensive glass.

Adams is a confident player, and while there may be some defensive questions, he is not afraid of getting in there and mixing it up. Adams has also done a good job stepping into a leadership role, being vocal.

Looking at some of the best UNC teams over the past couple of decades, which the specifics of the players might be different, they have all had quality combo forwards. Players who could be considered either jumbo wings or versatile forwards. Adams fits this mold of player.
