Tigers manager A.J. Hinch finished fifth in the 2025 AL Manager of the Year vote, as announced Tuesday.

Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt won the award for the second year in a row. The 10-year MLB catcher received 17 of 30 first-place votes from the BBWAA in the second season of his managerial career.

The other AL Manager of the Year finalists: Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider placed second, and Mariners manager Dan Wilson came in third.

The Tigers finished with an 87-75 record in the 2025 season for second place in the AL Central, with the first-place Guardians rallying from a 15½-game deficit to claim the division.

On Sept. 10, the Tigers had a 99.9% chance to win the AL Central, according to FanGraphs, only to lose 13 of their final 16 games. The historic collapse allowed the Guardians to surge from 0.1% on Sept. 10 to 100% on Sept. 28.

A total of 30 BBWAA voters ranked their top three Manager of the Year candidates after the regular season and before the beginning of the postseason. The votes were worth five points for first place, three points for second place and one point for third place.

Hinch appeared on four of the 30 ballots, but he didn’t receive any first-place votes. He secured one second-place vote and three third-place votes, totaling six points.

Vogt led the way with 113 points, followed by Schneider with 91 points and Wilson with 50 points. Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora took fourth with seven points.

Hinch, hired by the Tigers in October 2020, is still chasing his first Manager of the Year win, despite six top-five finishes throughout his 12-year managerial career. He finished second in 2015, third in 2017 and 2024, fourth in 2018 and fifth in 2019 and 2025.

The Tigers haven’t had a Manager of the Year since Jim Leyland in 2006.
