The Florida State Seminoles will host the Virginia Tech Hokies (3-6, 2-3 ACC) for their final home game of the season on Senior Night this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
Florida State leads the all-time series 24-13-1, including a 14-6 advantage in Tallahassee in the series that dates to 1955. Since their 2002 ACC Championship Game meeting, the teams have alternated wins in the last seven matchups, with FSU taking the most recent contest, 3917, in 2023. The teams have split their last six meetings, each winning three games.
The Hokies, coming off an open week, are playing in only their third road game of the season. They secured a win at NC State but lost to Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech looks to rebound from a 2816 loss to then-No. 16 Louisville, where the Hokies were shut out in the second half.
The Seminoles (4-5, 1-5 ACC) are 42 at home in 2025 and looking to bounce back from a 2410 loss at Clemson in their lowest scoring and offensive performance of the year. FSU QB Tommy Castellanos has thrown for 225 or more yards in seven of nine games and leads the nation with an average of 15.76 yards per completion.
The Hokies faced current FSU QB Thomas Castellanos during the last two seasons when he was the quarterback at Boston College. Tech won those matchups with scores of 48-22 in 2023 and 42-21 in 2024.
Virginia Tech fired head coach Brent Pry in September 2025 after a 0-3 start to the season, naming offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery as the interim head coach for the remainder of the year.
On offense, the Hokies are led by quarterback Kyron Drones, who has eight rushing touchdowns and 15 passing touchdowns this season, and running back Marcellous Hawkins, who leads the team with 593 rushing yards and an average of 5.9 yards per carry.
According to FanDuel, Florida State is a 13.5-point favorite, with the over/under set at 54.5 points.
As we await the kickoff, enjoy some highlights from that time when VT and Noles decided the national championship following the 1999 season, with FSU winning the Sugar Bowl 46-29.
For some reason, Vegas loves Florida State football. A week after making Clemson a slight favorite, the Seminoles are favored by over two touchdowns against the Hokies. While Virginia Tech is not a good football team, I am not sure FSU should be two-touchdown favorites against anyone.
However, the line does highlight the imbalance between the two teams, even if Mike Norvells team will not win in a blowout fashion. Whenever Tony Whites defense settles down, they play decent football, and FSU should have better success running the ball against a team without two first-round picks along its defensive line like Clemson had. Hopefully, Florida State can end its home slate on a high note.

Man, I dont knowThe last few seasons have me feeling hella existential about this program. This Florida State team should absolutely win this game. But it also should have probably won a few of the games it already lost, given how good it is on paper. FSU basically needs a win here for bowl eligibility, but Im not sure any of you particularly care about that (and Im not saying youre wrong for being apathetic).
Side note: This will be the first Florida State home game since I joined the beat in 2015 that I wont be covering at Doak. Not going to lie, it feels pretty weird.

I think FSU should win, but does that mean they will? No. I am picking FSU, but a loss would not surprise me.

I will continue my reverse jinx hopes, but refuse to get my hopes up, if that makes sense. FSU should win this game, but they also should have won several other games. Mike Norvell knows how to make interim coaches look good.

When I first saw the spread on this one, I thought, How is this remotely possible? But upon a second reflection, I realized Florida State has actually been fairly decent at home, the second quarter of the Miami game notwithstanding. The key will be establishing the running game. FSU ran for its fewest yards on the season against Clemson, just 130. But it was also the fewest rushing attempts on the season (26) by a wide margin. For whatever reason, Gus and Mike totally abandon the run, despite rushing for 5 yards per carry.
VT comes into this one having given up 250+ rushing yards in 2 of its last 3 games. My hope is that the Noles get the run game going early and often, allowing them to play ahead of the chains and set up the long strikes to Duce and Danzy off play action.

This is the point in the season where everything starts to click, and the season gets turned around.
The Hokies better sleep with one eye open while gripping their pillows tight, because as the night enters, they will see the exit lights as the Seminoles send them to never-never land.

Each week shows me that I have no idea how to project this Florida State team mainly because I have been deluded into picking them in each of the five losses this season. This, by all means, should be a matchup that FSU wins at home, against a three-win team thats already fired its coach, but outside of Miami, each game this season is one that FSU should have won on paper both before and after the game. Ill lean towards Florida State being ready to ride for Senior Day and taking advantage of a winnable matchup, with there being a high likelihood that Kyron Drones comments about Doak Campbell Stadium not being impressive being mentioned quite a few times.
