Source: Chiefs fined $100K for sideline incident

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs were fined $100,000 for a sideline altercation involving tight end Peyton Hendershot and the Baltimore Ravens during the teams’ season opener Sept. 5, a source confirmed to ESPN on Saturday.

Hendershot, who was inactive for the game and standing on the Chiefs’ sideline, shoved Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith after Smith had chased Patrick Mahomes out of bounds.

News of the Chiefs fine was first reported by NFL Network, which said the league disciplined the team because it violated a rule that prohibits inactive players from making “unnecessary physical contact with, or taunting or directing abusive language, threatening or insulting language or gestures at, opponents, Game Officials or representatives of the League.”

Hendershot also was fined an undisclosed amount, the source confirmed to ESPN.

Hendershot was acquired by the Chiefs in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys shortly before the start of the regular season.
