Rubiales attacked with eggs by his uncle during book launch

Former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales was attacked with eggs thrown at him by his uncle during a book presentation on Thursday.

Citing police sources, the Periodista Digital news portal said that the man was Luis Ruben Rubiales, a TV actor and the younger brother of his father.

“He threw eggs at me because he’s disturbed, I can’t explain it. I went after him because I thought something would happen to family in the audience,” Rubiales said, according the Mundo Deportivo newspaper.

Rubiales was presenting his book “Matar a Rubiales” (“Kill Rubiales”) in Madrid when he had eggs thrown at him. The former RFEF boss ran after the attacker, who had to be contained by several people until the police arrived.

Rubiales was convicted by a court in Madrid of sexual assault after kissing Spain player Jennifer Hermoso on the lips without her consent during the trophy ceremony after Spain won the 2023 women’s World Cup in Sydney.

Rubiales was handed fine of 10,800 ($12,578). He also can’t contract Hermoso for a year.

In his book, he presents his version of the situation and denounces a media and political conspiracy against him.

“I will not change. What happened, happened. I didn’t lie. I have no intention of returning to the federation,” he said.
