Report: PWHL Names and Logos Will Be Delayed

The PWHL’s promised timeline of August for team names and logos sounds as though it may be delayed according to a report this morning.

On TSN 1200 this morning, PWHL Ottawa general manager Mike Hirshfeld stated that logos and nicknames may not come in August.

“As much as I know, schedule release is due at the end of September, logo and names, probably around the middle of September,” he told the show.

“I think everything’s on track,” he said.

In May, PWHL advisory board member Stan Kasten confirmed that team names and logos would come this summer, specifically in August.

According to today’s report however, it looks as though fans will be waiting until next month to see what their PWHL team’s will be called, and what their logos will look like.

Last season the league’s six teams played without team names or logos going simply by PWHL Boston, PWHL Minnesota, PWHL Montreal, PWHL New York, PWHL Ottawa, and PWHL Toronto.

“I think what everyone is waiting for is names and logos,” Hefford said in a year end press conference. “That’s one big thing that’s coming. I think that will be really exciting to be able to build those brands and make those brands significant in the markets and communities we’re in.”

Last fall the league applied for trademarks for six nicknames including the Boston Wicked, Minnesota Superior, Montreal Echo, New York Sound, Ottawa Alert, and Toronto Torch.

The Hockey News has reached out to the PWHL for clarification on team name and logo timelines. We will update this story when a response is received.
