The Cincinnati Reds finished the 2025 season strong. They’re looking to take a step forward in 2026.
They made an addition Thursday to help that cause.
The Reds have hired Oscar Marin as their new bullpen coach, the team announced.
Marin has been with the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2020, serving as their bullpen coach for six seasons.
The Reds had an opening in that role because Matt Tracy has moved into the assistant pitching coach spot. Last season’s assistant pitching coach, Simon Matthews, was hired by the Washington Nationals as their new pitching coach.
Marin’s coaching career began with the Texas Rangers in 2010. He served throughout their minor league levels for seven years.
In 2017 and 2018, Marin was the Seattle Mariners’ minor league pitching coordinator.
In 2019, Marin returned to the Rangers, where he was their bullpen coach for a season before heading to Pittsburgh.
Marin was a hire of manager Derek Shelton, who the Pirates dismissed in May. He didn’t follow Shelton this offseason, though, as Shelton was named the new Minnesota Twins manager.
Pittsburgh had already hired a new pitching coach, Bill Murphy, from the Astros.
Marin, 42, joins Terry Francona’s staff to try to get the Reds further than the final NL Wild Card spot, which saw them dismissed quickly in the postseason by the eventual repeat champion Dodgers.
