New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider was outspoken about losing Barclay Goodrow to the San Jose Sharks this offseason.
Kreider is an alternate captain for his club and is the longest tenured player currently on the Rangers roster. Goodrow was given an A before the start of the 2021-22 season.
Kreider has seen players come and go every season with the Rangers, but this move caught him off guard.
Chris Kreider on the Rangers losing Barclay Goodrow this offseason: Its difficult to articulate. Thats the awful side of our business, I guess: That it is a business. Its a friend for life, but its a guy you expected to be suiting up with again.

The winger understands the business side of the NHL. Rangers GM Chris Drury was not keen on keeping Goodrows cap hit of $3.641 million for another three seasons.
Despite a lackluster year in the regular season, Goodrow was successful in the playoffs. The forward had six goals, including an overtime-winning goal in game two of the Eastern Conference Final.

There are reports that the Sharks and Rangers had a backdoor deal for Goodrow to be claimed. Still, nothing has been proven on that front, and likely nothing ever will, but the Sharks got a grinder who can help lead, protect, and fight for Macklin Celebrini and other young Sharks prospects.
