Even on a short week, the New England Patriots were able to keep their win streak alive. Beating the visiting New York Jets with a final score of 27-14, they have now won eight games in a row to improve to 9-2 on the season.
Here is a Patriots-centric view at some of the key moments of the game.
TreVeyon Henderson scored two touchdowns during last weeks win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and just four days later was at it again. His first touchdown of the night came in the early second quarter, after the Patriots had fallen behind 7-0 on the games first drive. Aided by a fourth down conversion on a pass to DeMario Douglas, New England found itself deep into Jets territory when Henderson took a handoff and just began rumbling forward for a 7-yard score.
TreVeyon Hendersons second touchdown of the night was less contested than his first. Making a quick cut, he found his way into the end zone pretty much uncontested to give the Patriots a seven-point lead and himself a fourth touchdown in his last four quarters.
TreVeyon Henderson was not done after his two touchdowns in the second quarter. The third period saw the rookie add another score, this time as a receiver. Before that score, however, the Patriots saw some bona fide quarterbacking from Drake Maye, including this beautiful pass to Stefon Diggs:
Maye led the Patriots into the red zone later on that possession, where he connected with his young running back for the first receiving score of his career.
Hendersons third touchdown of the night saw him align in the backfield alongside Maye and Diggs, and then make his way through the Jets coverage without anyone following him. Maye saw his wide-open running back, delivered a perfect touch ball, and Henderson did the rest: catching the 6-yarder to give the Patriots a 21-7 lead midway through the third period.
The Patriots defense did give up some plays to the Jets, but it also came through in some key situations in the fourth quarter. The first saw the unit take advantage of their opponent mishandling a snap, with linebacker Anfernee Jennings jumping onto the loose ball for a fumble recovery. New England failed to fully capitalize on the takeaway the team settled for a field goal but it was still a big play midway through the final period.
Down 13 points and in the Patriots red zone, the Jets were still in theoretical contention for the victory just inside the two-minute warning. However, safety Dell Pettus had other plans. The second-year defender broke up a pass from New York quarterback Justin Fields to tight end Jeremy Ruckert for a turnover on downs. New England went on to gain a first down on its next possession to go into victory formation, and a 9-2 record on the year.
