Mets option Tylor Megill to Triple-A Syracuse: report

Following Saturdays 9-6 loss to the Astros, the Mets are optioning starting pitcher Tylor Megill to Triple-A Syracuse, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Per DiComo, the move allows the Mets to backfill Megills spot with a reliever which they are in dire need of as the team continues to navigate a shorthanded bullpen until Edwin Diaz returns from suspension.

The Mets can also recall Christian Scott or Jose Butto to spot start for Megill in his next turn through the rotation.

Megill allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings pitched in Saturdays loss to the Astros.

I thought Megill was OK, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said after the game. Showed flashes, fastball had good life. [He] threw some good splits. Theyve got good hitters, put together good at-bats. We couldnt put them away today.

In eight starts this season, Megill is 2-4 with a 5.08 ERA and 1.44 WHIP.
