Mercury star Satou Sabally says she's out for WNBA All-Star Game

Caitlin Clark’s team in the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game just lost a starter.

Phoenix Mercury forward Satou Sabally announced via Instagram on Wednesday that she will not play Saturday as she tries to return from an ankle injury. She said she would still be in Indianapolis on Thursday to take part in CBA negotiations as talks with the WNBA continue.

Her statement:

Sabally hasn’t played in a game since July 3 and will now remain out until at least July 23, the Mercury’s first game of the second half. Phoenix still has Alyssa Thomas participating in the game.

The Mercury acquired Sabally last offseason as part of a four-team trade that also netted Thomas. After spending the first five seasons of her career with the Dallas Wings, the former No. 2 overall pick is averaging a career-high 19.1 points per game, plus 7.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

The Mercury are currently second in the West with a 15-6 record.

Along with Sabally, Caitlin Clark selected A’ja Wilson, Sabrina Ionescu and teammate Aliyah Boston as her starters for the game this weekend, Indiana’s first All-Star Game in the 26-year history of the franchise. In addition to Sabally being out, Clark’s availability is also in question after she reaggravated a groin injury this week.

Las Vegas Aces wing Jackie Young, a reserve on Team Clark, also exited Wednesday’s game with a hip injury.

The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
