Live updates: Skenes leads NL vs. loaded AL lineup in All-Star Game

The 2024 MLB All-Star Game, the main attraction among this week’s festivities at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, has arrived.

The weekend has been full of headlines, including Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana becoming the first Australian player taken No. 1 overall in the MLB Draft and Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández winning the Home Run Derby after a bizarre national anthem, which Ingrid Andress later said she performed while drunk.

Pirates electric rookie pitcher Paul Skenes will get the start for the NL, becoming the first rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game since Hideo Nomo of the Dodgers started, also for the NL, in 1994. Coincidentally, Nomo also started at the home of the Texas Rangers, then The Ballpark in Arlington.

Orioles pitcher Corbin Burnes gets the ball for the AL in his fourth career All-Star Game and first career All-Star start.

The Globe Life Field crowd just booed Astros mascot Orbit when he was shown on screen. Orbit pulled out a Uno reverse card and made a sarcastic tear gesture. Electric.

The usual suspects are at the top of the list, but according to BetMGM’s John Ewing, the most money is on NL starting picher Paul Skenes (+2800).

There are three first basemen on the NL team tonight. One of them, the Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman, reportedly realized he forgot his first baseman’s mitt, so he might be sharing a glove with Bryce Harper tonight.
