Jets cornerback D.J. Reed calls out officiating after 26-21 loss to Seahawks: ‘Y’all should be ashamed’

After the New York Jets had a tough 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Jets cornerback D.J. Reed is pointing a finger at the officials.

The Jets, who failed to score after halftime, were bogged down by penalties throughout the game, and especially in the second half. The refereeing prompted Reed to express his discontent on social media, soon after the end of the game.

In a post on X, Reed tagged the NFL Officiating account with a censored swear. “You FXCKING suck, y’all should be ashamed of y’all selves!” Reed wrote.

New York ended the game with 12 penalties, with 83 yards lost as a result, compared to the Seahawks’ five penalties for 50 yards.

One of these Jets penalties was an early holding call on Reed, who was flagged in the first quarter while covering Seattle receiver Tyler Lockett. The drive later resulted in the Seahawks’ first touchdown of the game.

Four of the Jets’ penalties resulted in a Seattle first down, including on a few fourth-and-short downs and other high-impact situations. In the middle of the fourth quarter, a big fourth-and-one stop from the Jets was overturned by a horse collar tackle on Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet, who ran in for the game-winning touchdown on the same salvaged drive.

Reed, a former Seahawk for two seasons, ended the game with a strong stat line against his former team, racking up four solo tackles out of seven total and a deflected pass. But his success did not transfer to the rest of New York, who fall to 3-9 and are now guaranteed their ninth straight losing season.
