Jayden Daniels limps off field to locker room vs. Cowboys with hamstring injury

Jayden Daniels left Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys with a hamstring injury.

The Commanders quarterback sustained the injury on the first drive of the second half. Daniels got sacked and fumbled near midfield. His leg got twisted up on the sack by Shemar James, and he immediately reached for his right thigh.

He was able to limp off the field, but went straight into the sideline medical tent for evaluation.

Daniels then left for the locker room as backup quarterback Marcus Mariota warmed up. The Commanders listed him as questionable to return with a hamstring injury. Mariota replaced Daniels to lead the offense on the ensuing Commanders drive.

Daniels has already missed two games this season with a knee injury. He missed Weeks 3 and 4 with the injury and returned in Week 5 to lead a win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

The injury against the Cowboys does not appear to be on the same leg in which Daniels sustained his knee injury. The extent was unclear, but Daniels did give a thumbs up when he walked out of the sideline injury tent to the locker room.

An injury of any significance is a big blow to a Commanders team counting on the reigning Rookie of the Year to lead them back into playoff contention. Washington immediately suffered form his absence.

On his second throw of the game, Mariota threw an ill-advised pass under pressure into the flat. Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland intercepted it and returned the ball 68 yards for a touchdown.

The score inflated an already 19-point Cowboys lead to 41-15 as Dallas continued to pile on its NFC East rival.
