Santino Ferruccis car catapulted over Pato OWards in a wild wreck with 13 laps to go in the Honda Indy Toronto on Sunday.
OWard spun into the outside wall shortly after a restart with a bunch of cars behind him. As drivers continued into the corner where OWard was crashed, many didnt slow down. Pietro Fittipaldi hit OWard before Ferrucci barreled into OWards car and flew into the catchfence.

Thankfully, every driver in the crash was uninjured. It still seems unclear how spotters didn’t see O’Ward’s spin and alert drivers behind to slow down in an attempt to make the wreck far less serious than it was. Track workers apparently missed it too. If you look closely in the background of the video above, a green flag is being waved even after O’Ward’s car is hit by Marcus Ericsson (and before Fittipaldi and Ferrucci enter the scene).
Ferrucci’s crash is the second time in as many races an IndyCar driver has gone airborne. A week ago at Iowa Speedway, Sting Ray Robb’s car went into the air after it launched over the back of Alexander Rossi’s on the final lap as Rossi slowed. Rossi missed Sunday’s race after fracturing his thumb in a practice crash on Friday.
Colton Herta won the race from the pole on Sunday after he held off his Andretti Autosport teammate Kyle Kirkwood for the win.
