Deion Sanders said Tuesday that hes gonna be alright after he has a medical procedure.
Sanders said at his weekly news conference that he was scheduled for the surgery on Tuesday afternoon. He didnt reveal the nature of the approximately four-hour process, but said after Saturday nights loss to TCU that he believed he was experiencing a recurrence of blood clots.
Im having a procedure today. Prayerfully Ill be right back tomorrow I dont miss practice, I dont plan on doing such, Sanders said Tuesday. But it is what it is and we found what we found. We knew what it was. I have a wonderful team of doctors at UC Health and a wonderful team of trainers here to make sure and ensure my health.
Sanders did say that what he was dealing with was hereditary and not something that his own actions caused.
It has nothing to do with me working at the level that Im trying to compete at, Sanders said. Its hereditary, it is what it is, its nothing that I could have done to stop whats transpiring, nothing that I could have taken or something that Im just abiding by. It is what it is. Sometimes it just what it is.
Sanders dealt with blood clots while he was coaching at Jackson State during the 2021 season following a foot surgery. He ended up having two toes removed on his left foot because of female arterial clots.
In 2023, he missed Pac-12 media day because of surgery for blood clots in his right leg.
Sanders said Saturday night that he was in terrible pain and coached for much of the second half with his shoe off his left foot. The 35-21 loss dropped Colorado to 3-3.
I think I got more blood clots, Sanders said after the game. Cats out of the bag, all right. I think I got more blood clots. It dont make sense. Im hurting like crazy. I got a doctors appointment on Monday to see what time it is. So thats whats going on. Im not getting blood to my leg, thats why my leg is throbbing.”
Earlier this year, Sanders announced that he had his bladder removed after he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Sanders’ surgery happened shortly after the NFL Draft a tumultuous weekend for his family as Shedeur Sanders slipped all the way to the fifth round and said that he hadn’t told his sons the nature of his bladder surgery ahead of draft weekend.
