Canadiens: Rocket Loses Game and Dobes

The Montreal Canadiens’ farm team in the AHL the Laval Rocket had a tremendous start to its season, but the going got tough lately. Pascal Vincent’s men are now 4-4-1-1 in their last 10 games and they lost both their duel with the Toronto Marlies last night and goaltender Jakub Dobes.

The Rocket has only got a single win in their last five games and last night, they lost 3-2 in the shootout against the Marlies. Even worst, it was Cedric Pare who scored the game-winning goal. If the name rings familiar, it’s because he’s the player who injured Patrik Laine on a knee-on-knee hit last September.

The Rocket’s fans remembered Pare perfectly well and spent the best part of the night booing him (as one would expect) and he will all too happy to taunt them when he scored the game winner, just like Kirby Dach did when he scored the game winner in Chicago, a city that has yet to forget him.

As for Dobes, he had to leave the game early in the second period after surrendering two goals in seven shots. It’s the second time this season the Canadiens hopeful battles an injury. He sustained a lower body injury at the end of October, but was back in the net just a week later. Hopefully, this latest occurrence will also be a short-term ailment.

The Czech goaltender has played 13 games with the Rocket this season and has a 8-3-1 record with a 2.55 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. There have been plenty of rumblings of late about the Canadiens needing to make a move to address their goaltending issues. This setback might cost Dobes a call-up, if the Canadiens eventually decide something has to be done about Cayden Primeau’s form.
