Butterfield Bermuda Championship DFS picks 2025: I love this big-time longshot this week

The Butterfield Bermuda Championship is a relatively new addition to the Fall Swing that debuted in October 2019. Port Royal Golf Club, originally designed in 1970 by Robert Trent Jones, has been the host course for all six editions of the event. The Jones design is one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour, but it can still play quite challenging due to its proximity to the coast and variable wind conditions. An early weather forecast shows some reasonably high winds that indicates more challenging scoring conditions than years past, but elite wedge play and putting will still be the name of the game.

The field will be headlined this week by Rico Hoey, Kevin Yu, Thorbjorn Olesen and Nico Echavarria, amongst others. Its not the most impressive field of the fall, but its generally a tournament won by unheralded players. In five of the six years of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, we have the winner come from 60-1 or higher on the odds board. I will not be afraid to take some big swings on this DFS slate.

Here are my favorite plays and those who Im fading for the 2025 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

$9,000+ range Play: Pierceson Coody, $9,600:

Alex Slitz

Pierceson Coody is playing some great golf right now. Even in a 31st-place finish at the World Wide Technology Championship, Coody ranked fifth in driving accuracy and fifth in greens in regulation percentage. Coody also finished 12th at this event last year.

Fade: Jesper Svensson, $9,200:

I was surprised to see this price tag on Jesper Svensson, who will be making his first appearance at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. In his last start at the World Wide Technology Championship, Svensson missed the cut by 13 strokes, yet he is still being priced as one of the best players in the field.

$8,000 range Play: Matt Kuchar, $8,600:

Alex Slitz

If I was building a course for Matt Kuchar, it would look a lot like Port Royal. Kuchars prior success on short, windy, coastal tracks such as Pebble Beach and Waialae should be a strong harbinger for Port Royal. Kuchar is coming off three top-20s in a row during this fall as well.

Fade: Luke Clanton, $8,300:

I still love Luke Clantons potential, but he is just not playing good enough golf to justify this price tag. Clanton is coming off a 46th at World Wide Technology Championship where he did not even crack the top-50 in greens in regulation percentage, and his approach play has been shaky for months now.

$7,000 range Play: Beau Hossler, $7,800:

Orlando Ramirez

Beau Hossler is coming of a solid 17th at the World Wide Technology Championship where he finished 10th in greens in regulation percentage, and he has already recorded two top-30 finishes in three starts at Port Royal. Hossler is also one of the best long-term Bermuda putters in the field.

Fade: Ricky Castillo, $7,800:

Ricky Castillo is coming off three MCs in a row, and he has struggled to find any form of consistency on the PGA Tour this year. His greatest skill, power off the tee, is also significantly de-valued on this golf course.

Flier: Andrew Putnam, $7,100:

Alex Slitz

Andrew Putnam is the perfect fit for this golf course, and his lack of skill off the tee will certainly mitigated in exchange for short iron approach play and putting, where Putnam excels. Putnam has also been excellent on my strongest comparative courses such as the Waialae, Pebble Beach and TPC Summerlin.

$6,000 range Play: Paul Peterson, $6,500:

Paul Peterson is one of my favorite plays in the $6,000 range due to his upside on approach and with the flat-stick. Peterson ranks top-15 in this field in proximity from 100-150 yards and in Bermuda putting, and he recently gained nearly seven strokes on approach at the Black Desert Championship.
