Barstow volleyball player Angelique Lealofi is the Daily Press High School Athlete of the Week

There were 32,814 votes cast in a recent race for the Daily Press High School Athlete of the Week poll.

Barstow volleyball player Angelique Lealofi ended with 44.99% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.

The star volleyball player received 14,764 votes, beating out 12 other high school athletes from across the High Desert.

To earn a spot on the ballot, Lealofi helped lead the Aztecs to a 3-2 victory over Oxford Academy in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs on Oct. 21. Lealofi led the way with 17 kills, seven blocks, seven assists, three aces and 18 digs.

In the voting, Lealofi beat Silverado football player Jayden Pauling, who received 38.81% at 12,736 total votes.

The nominees were selected based on performances between Oct. 20 to 25.

Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week’s games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
