All Eyes on Seth Jarvis; Hurricanes Focus in on Final Negotiation of Offseason

Everyone knew it was going to be a busy offseason for the Carolina Hurricanes, but as we enter August, there’s really only one piece of business left to take care of.

After getting Martin Necas signed to a two-year, $6.5 million AAV contract earlier in the week, the final hurdle for Carolina GM Eric Tulsky and company is to reach a deal with RFA Seth Jarvis.

The reason that Jarvis’ deal has taken the longest to get done is because it’s the least pressing. There is really no impending deadline on a new contract other than the start of the season.

Heading to July 1, the Canes had to figure out where they stood with all their upcoming UFAs and then as July 1 hit, they had to focus on the UFA market.

After that, Necas and Jack Drury were RFAs who both had and used their arbitration rights putting another deadline on the Canes.

So now that everything is settled, they can focus in on Jarvis.

The 22-year-old forward is coming off of a huge breakout season that saw the star forward set new personal bests.

In 81 games, Jarvis had 33 goals and 67 points while playing on both the top power play unit as well as the first penalty kill unit.

The 2020 first-round pick had a truly remarkable season and that was all while playing on a torn labrum and rotator cuff that he suffered in November.

The young forward is a blossoming two-way star and the fact that he was able to prove that talent all while playing through a nagging injury, just goes to show he’s still capable of so much more.

If you haven’t put your money into ‘JarvyCoin’ yet, hop on the bandwagon and if you’re the Carolina Hurricanes, you probably want to lock him up for the full eight years.

And with a projected $9+ million in usable cap space, that should be more than possible.
