The Yankees have added another relief arm to their bullpen before the trade deadline.
New York acquired right-hander Enyel De Los Santos and minor league pitcher Thomas Balboni Jr. from the San Diego Padres.
In exchange, the Yankees sent minor league outfielder Brandon Lockridge to San Diego.
De Los Santos, 28, has made 44 appearances for the Padres, pitching to a 4.46 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. He also has 48 strikeouts in 40.1 innings pitched. His last appearance came Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles, when he gave up two hits, one walk and struck out four batters in two scoreless innings.
This is De Los Santos’ sixth year in the majors, previously playing with the Phillies and Guardians before landing in San Diego this season. For his career, De Los Santos has pitched to a 14-6 record, 4.25 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP to go along with two saves — one coming this season.
Balboni Jr., 24, has gone 4-1 with two saves and a 4.46 ERA in 30 relief appearances this season with Single-A Lake Elsinore.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman has added a number of bullpen arms of late, including De Los Santos, and Mark Leiter Jr. from the Chicago Cubs, while also dealing lefty Caleb Ferguson to the Houston Astros for a prospect and bonus pool money.
The biggest deal made by the Yankees this deadline was OF/INF Jazz Chisholm Jr. over the weekend from the Miami Marlins.
