EDMONTON — A lot is going on in Oil Country right now.
The Edmonton Oilers just recently announced Stan Bowman as the successor to (now) former General Manager Ken Holland. The move is steeped in controversy to say the least.
However, players have been going about their offseasons. Connor McDavid is getting married to Lauren Kyle on Saturday, Evander Kane launched his own wine, and James Hamblin proposed to his girlfriend.

Leon Draisaitl also proposed to his girlfriend, but some other news might be coming down the pipe soon.
On Wednesday’s Oilers Now show, host Bob Stauffer quickly answered some questions from fans texting into the show. In response to a text about someone saying that the Bowman hiring will negatively impact the Draisaitl negotiations Stauffer had this to say, “it would not surprise me if Leon were to be signed to an extension shortly.”
If this happens in the next week, it would be a massive move for the organization. Of course, the term would be the biggest point of interest for most Oilers’ fans.
Bowman revealed his thoughts on Draisaitl and the impending contract negotiations during his introductory press conference, “Leon is a star player, he’s top priority for me. I want Leon to be an Oiler for life. He’s a fantastic player, I’ve enjoyed watching him play.”
“I think what sets him and Connor (McDavid) apart from pretty much anyone else is in the game is…they’re that rare breed that can elevate their game in the playoffs.”
Clearly Bowman thinks highly of Draisaitl. That combined with what Stauffer said makes a contract extension announcement sound like it will happen sooner rather than later.
