Yankees catcher Jose Trevino left Friday’s win against the Baltimore Orioles with what the team is saying is a quad injury.
Trevino led the ninth inning with a double and scored on a Juan Soto single with two outs to put the Yankees up 4-1. However, when the bottom of the ninth started, Austin Wells was behind the plate. Replays showed that Trevino grimaced while running to home plate.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the game that he believes the injury happened on the slide to home.
“We’ll evaluate, see where we’re at tomorrow,” Boone said.
Trevino had a big day on Friday. Not only did he score that insurance run in the ninth, he got the scoring started with an RBI double in the second inning. He finished 2-for-4 on the night.
After missing most of 2023 with an injury, Trevino has had a solid 2024 so far. He’s batting .244 with eight home runs and 27 RBI as he splits time with Wells behind the plate.
