Dequan Finn, Miami University starting QB, leaves RedHawks midseason

Miami University football head coach Chuck Martin announced Nov. 14 the RedHawks will play the rest of their season without starting quarterback Dequan Finn, who left the program to prepare for professional football.

Finn transferred to MU after five seasons at Toledo and one season at Baylor. He passed for 1,451 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions, adding 395 rushing yards and four TDs in the eight games he played for the RedHawks.

Finn did not play in the RedHawks’ loss Nov. 12 to the Rockets, his former team.

“Dequan’s moving on. We had 11 good months with him,” Martin said. “Dequan did some awesome things. He’s an awesome young man. We spent a lot of time together. At this point, he’s gonna move on. He’s got a shot to play at the next level. He’s going to train and get ready to go do that. We appreciate what he did for us and wish him the best. So we will not see him the rest of the year.”

Martin confirmed that senior Henry Hesson, who had 147 passing yards with three interceptions against Toledo in Finn’s absence, will start at QB the rest of the season.

The RedHawks are 5-5 overall, 4-2 in the Mid-American Conference.
