Almont football dominates Detroit Edison to win Division 6 regional final

ALMONT Throughout the MHSAA state tournament, as the temperature grows colder, the Almont football team only gets hotter.

And the heat wave continued Friday, Nov. 14.

The Raiders rolled past Detroit Edison, 44-8, in a Division 6 regional final at Almont High School.

Junior quarterback Blake Lane threw three touchdown passes for Almont, which improved to 12-0 overall and advanced to next week’s state semifinal against Jackson Lumen Christ or Ida.

The Pioneers finished the season at 9-3.

Raiders halfback Jacob Stewart opened the scoring on a 74-yard touchdown run just 3:50 into the game. A successful two-point conversion gave Almont an 8-0 edge.

Then, at the 4:22 mark of the first quarter, Lane found Brody Corneau for a 26-yard touchdown catch.

Four minutes later, and 65 seconds into the second quarter, Stewart struck again on a 27-yard carry. By halftime, Almont led 37-0.

Detroit Edison got on the board when Kayden Upshaw caught an 11-yard touchdown pass with 2:41 left in the fourth quarter.

Friday was the Raiders’ second regional championship in the past three seasons and their third since 2019.
