Barcelona and RFEF presidents to meet to ease tensions over Lamine Yamal issue

The past few months have seen tensions rise between Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) over the handling of Lamine Yamals fitness.

The Blaugrana were unhappy that the 18-year-old was made to play during the September international break despite not being at 100% fit, which has given way to recurring pubalgia issues.

Lamine then missed the Spain call-up in October due to the discomfort resurfacing. And, while he was called up this month, he was forced to withdraw after undergoing treatment for pubalgia, much to the anger of Spain manager Luis de la Fuente and the RFEF.

As such, AS now reports that RFEF president Rafael Louzan is set to meet with Barcelona president Joan Laporta to resolve the matter.

The RFEF issued a strong statement on Monday expressing surprise and discomfort at Lamine being released from the national team squad for the matches against Georgia and Turkey.

The Federation was particularly upset because they felt Barcelona could have informed them earlier of Lamines treatment and subsequent rest period, pointing fingers at the lack of communication.

Barcelona, meanwhile, complain that in recent call-ups, players such as Marc Bernal, who was called up for the U-21 team last month after only 21 minutes of playing time following more than a year out, and Lamine himself, who is managing pubalgia, have still been summoned.

Given the growing tension, Louzan called Barcelona executive, Alejandro Echevarria, on Monday to ease the pressure. Now, he intends to meet with Laporta to put the matter to bed.

As for Lamine, he has informed Barcelona of his desire to play the Finalissima on 27 March and hopes that by then relations between the club and the Federation will have been restored, according to sources close to the player.

The La Masia gem feels he is caught in the middle of a dispute for which he is not to blame. He only wants to recover as soon as possible and play at the highest level for club and country, in what is a World Cup year.

Barça is his club, but Lamine showcased his talent to the world at the European Championship, and we are all aware of the importance of international matches in players careers, including Lamines, a source from the players inner circle told AS.
