Stock up, stock down following the New York Jets' 27-14 loss at the New England Patriots

The New York Jets (2-8) were riding high as they notched a two-game winning streak after losing their first seven games of the 2025 NFL campaign to a variety of opponents.

New York was going to be playing on a short week against one of their AFC East rivals in the New England Patriots (9-2) and it seems that the Jets weren’t able to derail the Drake Maye train.

The Jets lost to the Patriots 27-14 on “Thursday Night Football” despite leading 7-0 after the conclusion of the first quarter due to a solid performance from running back Breece Hall. The Jets struggled with their passing game and once again, New York did not make much happen through the air and it ultimately led to them suffering a defeat.

The Jets defense did what it could to limit the red-hot Maye and the Patriots offense, but running back TreVeyon Henderson showed what he could do on the ground and through the air when given the chance. New York will have to go back to the drawing board to see how they can get back into the winning column.

With that, here is Jets Wire’s stock report for the Jets following Thursday’s loss at the Patriots:

After being acquired in a recent trade, Metchie was put in a position where he would have to produce if the Jets had any chance of beating the Patriots, especially with wide receiver Garrett Wilson being placed on Injured Reserve (IR). Metchie stepped to the challenge as he caught all three of his targets for 45 yards and one touchdown for a New York offense that only passed for 105 yards for the entire game.

Mitchell was another wide receiver acquired by the Jets via trade when they traded cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts, but he did not have the impact that New York was hoping for. Mitchell caught just one of his six targets for 10 yards and if he is going to make an impact for the Jets moving forward, he has to be better with his efficiency.

Williams was one of the standouts on a Jets defense that wasn’t able to challenge the Patriots much when it came to the running game, but he made his individual impact known in his own way. Williams compiled eight tackles (six solo) and also had one tackle for a loss to show how much he was locked in for New York, especially in the running game.

This entry is to point out how great McDonald was on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns and how much he essentially disappeared in this game at the Patriots. McDonald did not do much outside of a lone tackle which had to be disappointing for the Jets to be in such a big spot and get virtually nothing out of one of their most talented defensive players.

Hall had a solid performance against the Patriots and while he wasn’t extraordinary, he provided what the Jets needed on the ground, especially with the passing attack being nonexistent for much of the game. Hall is in an interesting position for the rest of the season as the offense seems to crater with Garrett Wilson off the field and he’s currently on IR.

Fields did a great job of making things happen in the ground game, but the reality is that he has to find a way to boost the passing game. The Jets are one of the worst passing teams in the league and while some of that comes down to the team just not passing as much, it also comes down to Fields not pushing the ball down the field and giving receivers a chance to make plays.
