Barcelona defender breaks silence on misunderstanding that sparked injury rumours – ‘Taken out of context’

Barcelona received a welcome boost last weekend when Andreas Christensen returned to action after nearly a month on the sidelines, featuring in the closing minutes of the win against Celta Vigo.

His appearance came as a mild surprise, especially given what unfolded in the days leading up to the match.

During one of the final training sessions before the trip, the Danish defender began working with the squad as usual, only to leave the pitch moments later.

With no official explanation offered at the time, speculation began to swirl about his physical condition.

Despite the confusion, Christensen, whose contract expires in 2026, was included in Denmarks squad for the current international break, where they are set to face Belarus and Scotland in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Wanting to clear the air, the centre-back spoke to TV2, as relayed by SPORT, where he clarified the situation and insisted that he was never injured.

Providing a straightforward context to the incident, he said it had simply been an organisational slip-up.

As he explained, It was a misunderstanding that was taken a little out of context.

Christensen went on to elaborate, emphasising that he had been fully prepared to train normally and even believed he would be taking part in tactical work. He recounted the moment, saying,

I was ready to play on the wing out there, but I should have been with the physical trainers, training very hard to be ready for the game against Celta.

They hadnt told me, so I was there, ready to play, and the press was there. It may seem strange, but it was a misunderstanding.

The Danish international has always been known for his quiet personality and his preference to avoid the spotlight.

But last season, circumstances pushed him into public discussion far more often than he would have liked.

Persistent injuries kept him out for long stretches, prompting repeated questions from journalists and even forcing Hansi Flick to address his availability in several press conferences.

Reflecting on that difficult period, Christensen acknowledged that the constant scrutiny had been frustrating but insisted that he is now in a far better physical place.

Before last season, there were hardly any questions about my physical condition. But since then, there have been many.

Now Im back in competition a little, without getting injured. In fact, except for illnesses, Ive been fit all season.

So its annoying, but I have to accept it. With my head held high and playing, as I always have, he concluded.
