Former Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales was pelted with eggs during an event to promote his new book on Thursday.
Rubiales was speaking about his new book titled Matar a Rubiales at the espacio Eventize media room in Madrid when an audience member began throwing eggs at him.
Video footage on social media showed the 48-year-old attempting to confront the individual, who was removed from the premises by security staff.
Rubiales later identified the aggressor as his own uncle.
Speaking to Radio Marca, he said: Hes my uncle, his name is Luis Rubén, he said. Hes a troublemaker and hes unwell. I think hes been arrested. Well see what we can do to prevent these things from happening again. Its a shame
Rubiales caused huge controversy during the 2023 Womens World Cup final awards ceremony in August when he forcibly kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips.
The former football official claimed Hermoso had given her consent before he kissed her, but the player maintained it wasnt consensual.
Rubiales behaviour sparked protests and calls for his resignation from his post.
He eventually resigned in September, and he was banned from all football-related activities for three years by FIFA.
Rubiales was found guilty of sexual assault over the incident by Spains High Court in February this year, but he avoided prison term and was ordered to pay a fine.
The 48-year-old continues to claim he has been wronged by the institutions and the media, and the new book is his attempt to offer the unfiltered truth.
But the book launch descended into chaos, as a member of his own family began throwing eggs at him.
