Lazio Ultras to Boycott Lecce Match as They Protest Paparelli Tribute Incident

The Curva Nord of the Stadio Olimpico will be deserted during the contest between Lazio and Lecce, as the Biancocelesti ultras call for a protest following an incident that occurred while they were holding a tribute to Vincenzo Paparelli.

Ahead of their most recent home fixture against Cagliari, the Lazio supporters paid homage to Paparelli, the Aquile supporter who lost his life while attending the Derby della Capitale after being hit by a flare launched by a Roma fan. Before the contest, the Lazio supporters displayed an massive tifo with the name Vincenzo to honor the memory of their fallen comrade.

But as Il Messaggero explains, the tribute was incomplete, as the Lazio ultras had invited Pararellis daughter and 13-year-old granddaughter to the athletic track in front of the Curva Nord before kickoff, but members of the clubs security denied them access.

Therefore, the Lazio ultras have announced that they will boycott the clubs next home fixture against Lecce, which will take place on November 23, while inviting all other Aquile supporters to join their protest by vacating their seats at the Stadio Olimpico.

This episode will only widen the rift between the clubs Curva Nord supporters and the hierarchy represented by club president and owner, Claudio Lotito. These fans have been constantly protesting against the patron, urging him to sell the club, but the latter remains defiant, reiterating how his arrival had shielded Lazio from a financial catastrophe when he took over in 2004.
