After a handful of down years, the New England Patriots appear to be back in their familiar spot as AFC contenders. With a playoff berth looking likely and an AFC East title within reach, the question down the stretch is whether the Patriots are merely a feel-good story or a team that can genuinely disrupt the balance of power in the conference.
The answer might not come Thursday night, when the Patriots host the New York Jets under the lights, but theyve mastered the art of beating inferior teams this season and are heavy favorites to extend their win streak to eight.
The Jets are enjoying a win streak of their own, having won back-to-back games against the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. But the Patriots pose a massive challenge after a pair of blockbuster trades thinned New Yorks defense. The Jets are also expected to be without WR Garrett Wilson due to a knee injury.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn has remained tight-lipped on his quarterback decision after Justin Fields struggled mightily in a Week 10 win. Whether its Fields or Tyrod Taylor, New York faces an uphill battle to keep pace with Patriots breakout star Drake Maye, as the second-year quarterback looks to solidify his place in the NFL MVP conversation.
