Micah Parsons is no longer a Dallas Cowboy, but his family still might be holding on to the fandom. According to ESPN’s Mike Garafolo, Parsons’ mother, Sherese, is in attendance at the Cowboys’ opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in Philly on Thursday and per Garafolo, she was wearing Cowboys gear.
Sherese Parsons was already in Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field more than two hours before kickoff alongside Parsons’ grandmother. Sherese lives in Harrisburg, PA, where Micah was born and raised; Harrisburg is about 100 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
Thursday’s Cowboys-Eagles game will kick off the 2025 NFL season with a major rivalry game. The Eagles will also be unveiling their Super Bowl banner, though head coach Nick Sirianni said that the team will not be watching the ceremony in order to keep from being distracted.
Dallas, meanwhile, will be playing in its first game since trading away Parsons, its biggest defensive star, to the Green Bay Packers.
Overall, things between Micah Parsons and the Cowboys did not end on great terms. Parsons was sent to Green Bay after a months of tense negotiations between him and Dallas owner Jerry Jones, with Jones trashing Parsons in the media at multiple points during the saga.
Even now, Parsons has continued to take digs at his former team: On Thursday, the edge rusher made a comment about how he’s never been on a team where the players “want to be here.”
But while Parsons might not hold much love for the Cowboys, his mom appears to feel differently. Considering how recently things went sour, it’s unclear whether Parsons’ mom was planning on attending the game back when it was her son’s season opener, or whether four years of rooting for Dallas made her a die-hard fan.
Parsons is suffering from a back injury (specifically a vertebral joint sprain) that puts his Week 1 availability in question, though he may be able to play with an epidural injection. The Packers open the season by hosting the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Either way, it’s likely that both Parsons and his mother will be excited for Week 4, when Dallas hosts Green Bay for an early reckoning.
