The New York Rangers are now without a captain after trading Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks.
However, Peter Laviolette has no plans to name a new captain as of right now.
Not right now, Laviolette said about if the Rangers have a timeline on naming a captain. Weve got a leadership group that weve been dealing with the whole time. Right now, were moving forward with that.
Laviolette also does not envision adding another assistant captain .
The Rangers have a number of veteran players including Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin, so from a leadership standpoint New York will be ok despite the loss of Trouba.
While Trouba may have been a staple of the locker room, Laviolette feels the dynamic of the team wont change without a captain.
Like Ive said weve been moving with a leadership group and so nothing changes in regard to that, Laviolette said. Ive met with them and talked with them. I dont think much will change.
The current assistant captains are Fox, Kreider, Panarin and Zibanejad.
