According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, sources told him that the Buffalo Sabres are one of the “busier teams” in the trade market right now.
In addition, LeBrun was informed by an executive from another team that the Sabres are “looking to do something big if they can.”
It is not surprising that the Sabres want to make a splash, given that they are looking to break their 13-year playoff drought and have had mixed results early on. They also have over $7 million of projected cap space and a solid prospect pool, so they are in a prime position to add.
But what areas on their roster are the Sabres likely looking to improve? The most obvious need they have is another top-six winger. It also would not hurt for them to bring in another right-shot defenseman.
It is still early in the season, so it is a little harder to make significant trades right now. However, we will need to wait and see if general manager Kevyn Adams can make an early-season splash from here.
