New Flyers Forward Could Be Sneaky Good Addition

The Philadelphia Flyers have made some notable moves this offseason, like extending Travis Konecny and Garnet Hathaway and re-signing Bobby Brink, Egor Zamula, and Erik Johnson. However, they have been incredibly quiet when it comes to bringing in new talent through free agency.

The Flyers’ lone free-agent addition this summer so far has been Anthony Richard. While he may not be the biggest of splashes, he has the potential to be a sneaky good addition to the Flyers organization.

Richard, 27, spent this past season with the Boston Bruins organization. He proved to be an important part of the Providence Bruins’ offense, recording 25 goals and 55 points in 59 AHL games. He has shown throughout his career that he can produce very well offensively at the AHL level, so if the Flyers send him down, he will at least be a great addition to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

However, Richard also could be a decent bottom-six option for the Flyers when injuries arise. He served well in this role with Boston this past season, recording one goal and three points in nine contests. The same can be said about him during the 2022-23 campaign with the Montreal Canadiens, as he posted three goals and five points in 13 games.

Overall, Richard could see his offense at the NHL level improve next season with the Flyers. If he impresses at camp, perhaps he could even make a case for a bottom-six spot. It will be interesting to see what kind of campaign he puts together for Philly.
