The United States women’s basketball team continues its quest for its eighth straight gold medal with their semifinal matchup against Australia on Friday. So far, Team USA has largely cruised through their games, besting Japan, Belgium and Germany in group play. Australia beat Serbia handily in their quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday, while the U.S. defeated Nigeria 88-74 en route to the semifinal.
A’ja Wilson has averaged 20.3 points and 10 rebounds per game, with Breanna Stewart chipping in 18.5 points and 5.8 rebounds. Australia’s top scorer is Sami Whitcomb, who’s averaging 14.8 points and 6 assists per game. Australia’s scouting report is likely robust, with head coach Sandy Brondello (who also coaches the New York Liberty) at the helm.
