5 takeaways from New York Giants position coaches

New York Giants position coaches were available to media on Friday. Here are some of the takeaways, with former head coach Brian Daboll being a popular topic.

Tierney has worked with now former Giants head coach Brian Daboll since Daboll was offensive coordinator at Alabama in 2017. Obviously, Tierney feels Dabolls firing personally.

Miss him. Love him. Appreciate the opportunity he gave me, Tierney said.

Interim head coach Mike Kafka, formerly the teams offensive coordinator, chose tight ends coach Tim Kelly rather Tierney to be the offensive coordinator for the remainder of the season.

I was happy for Tim. Hes a really good coach, a lot of good experience doing it, Tierney said.

Dart went back onto the field Sunday against the Chicago Bears for two plays after the Giants quarterback took a hit that caused a concussion.

Tierney said Dart initially seemed fine, but it was the second time he came off the field when it was noticeable that something was off.

When we noticed something was off we got him right to the medical professionals and got him looked at, Tierney said of his sideline interaction with Dart. As soon as we got some inkling something was going on we got the doctors right away.

Edge defender Abdul Carter, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, still has just a half-sack despite his advanced numbers showing more impact than that. Still, the half-sack in 10 games is the number that draws attention

Is the production where we would all think it would be or want more flashy numbers and all that, sure, Bullen said. But, hes had some great rushes and/or the ball was out and hes had some sacks taken away.

The message is always just keep playing good football and doing what you can to produce, and the production will come. You cant chase numbers. Youve just got to do your job at a high level and live with what comes from that.

Carter draws comparisons to Packers edge defender Micah Parsons because they both play the same position, have similar skill sets, wore the same number in college and were both drafted early. Can that fuel Carter?

Abdul is such a competitor. He doesnt need any extra juice to get going, Bullen said. I think hell just focus on himself and play his game.

Veteran defensive line coach Andre Patterson said he was very disappointed that Daboll was let go.

Very disappointed. Sad. He brought me here. I have a lot of respect for him, Patterson said. We didnt do a good enough job to win enough games to keep him here. We all play a part in that. Myself, the players, all the coaches, we all play a part.
